The 8mm Kromar is listed in Erlmeier, Brandt Vol. 1 p. 127 as a self-loading pistol developed in 1892 by Konrad Kromar. There is however some confusion over the 8mm Kromar, but according to Josef Motz and Heinrich Kohlmann, in their excellent book on Austrian Military Cartridges, Vol 3, p 296, the Kromar designation is wrong, as there was never such a cartridge, the correct name is the 8mm Schönberger, with Roth #350. Over time there are several very good and reliable sources that I have found on the internet while doing research for this website. One of these is the Ohio Gun Collectors Association. They have a section dedicated to the history of repeating pistols leading to the development of the semi-automatic pistol and nowhere is there any mention of a Kromar designed pistol. Another excellent source that I frequently consult is from Rock Island Auction, a website well worth a visit for some of the fine weapons listed but there also I have not been able to find any reference to a Kromar designed semi-automatic pistol. The only reference to Kromar is found in a book, Repetier-und Automatische Handfeuer Waffen des Systeme Ferdinand Ritter von Mannlicher (Wien: L.W. Seidel & Sohn, 1900), that was written and illustrated by Konrad Edler von Kromar, an employee of Mannlicher.

Therefore, the refence to the 8mm Kromar will be kept here for historical purposes only. (Erlmeier, Brandt Ref. 91).
