The 8 x 54 Krag is based on the old 6.5 x 55 necked up to 8mm. the country of origin is uncertain, but there seens to be two schools of thought as to its development. Firstly, that it was a Swedish design as regulations were introduced in the early 1930’s making 8mm the minimum required caliber for reindeer hunting leading to many old 6.5mm rifles having to be rebarrelled. The second theory was that it was a Norwegian invention for seal hunting and dates from earlier, likely around 1910 which is supported by the RWS headstamp that produced prior to WW1.
