This Lorenz case is #232 and shown in the “Military” section of the c1884 Export catalogue with the wording: “M71 verlängert” meaning an extended version of the 11mm Mauser (MB145). It was also shown in DM-K catalogues up to c1895 but not in DWM catalogues. This case has the shoulder in the same position as the 11mm Mauser with a neck that is 7mm longer than normal. What this would be used for is unconfirmed but it could be for a blank loading. There are also “no h/s” examples that are loaded with a lead bullet but this doesn’t prove what its original use was for. These cases that might have been earmarked for blanks might have been loaded with lead bullets, but not confirmed.  (Dixon Ref. MB160)
